Black stripe: A new beginning

I asked permission from Kyoshi to witness the award of the black stripe on a new white belt.  He invited me over and I was accompanied by another black belt.  The young man graciously accepted the reward for his new martial art skills as we watched.

Ceremony is important.  Achievement is important.  The witness(es) in agreement is/are important.  The communion of the moment was cherished.

Karate is a pathway.  It is a pathway of discipline and respect.  It is not the destination, it is the journey.  Keep going.  Together.

  1. Karate was one invaluable way to help teach me respect as a child. Glad I did it. It always gave me a sense of pride when I earned a stripe or a new belt
